  • The Business of Yoga

A Yoga Alliance registered Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) program, such as Empower Yoga’s program, will take 200 hours to complete.  Most YTT students also have full time jobs or family obligations that make the traditional YTT requirements challenging to fulfill.  This is why Empower Yoga has created a new model for Yoga Teacher Training that will provide our students with more flexibility, without sacrificing community, education, or value.

There are 3 categories of knowledge that we find the most important for students to learn to be a well-rounded yoga teacher.

These three are:

While many programs leave out this essential knowledge, we do not believe you can practice yoga authentically without understanding yoga’s roots or the eight limbs of yoga.  As such, we will require 6 in person workshops in this category.  The workshops you attend will include lectures, discussion, journaling and activities.

Some of the topics covered are:

  • Yoga Sutras & Yoga Literature

  • Yamas & Niyamas

  • Pranayama & Bandhas

  • Mantras & Mudras

  • Meditation

  • Introduction to Philosophy

  • The 7 Chakras

  • Introduction to Sanskrit

This is where you will learn how to teach yoga asanas, or poses.  We will break down the anatomy and physiology of foundational postures, as well as teach you how to teach advanced poses to an all-levels class.  Requirement: 6 in person workshops. Workshops will be very hands-on.

Topics include:

  • Sun Salutations

  • Backbends

  • Arm balances

  • Inversions

  • Yin Postures

  • Integration, Grounding, and Intentions; Theming Classes

  • AnatomyTeaching with Props (Wall, blocks, straps, bolsters, etc.)

  • Hands-on Adjustments

Perhaps the most important category in teaching yoga is actually teaching yoga!  In your practicum workshops, you will practice teaching yoga–to each other or to your teacher.  You might focus on teaching sun salutations, your peak pose, your yoga teacher voice, or a number of other elements of a yoga class.  This will be a time to ask questions and get clarity on the art of yoga teaching! Requirement: 6 in person workshops.

Each of the three above categories are organized into mini-2 hour workshops.  You are required to take six of each category.  When you enroll in our program, you will receive a syllabus with the dates, times, and topics of each workshop so you can choose the ones you are most interested in. You can take as many as you want in any category, but you must meet the following requirements, at minimum:

  • Attend Opening Night: Friday, September 16, 7-10 PM

  • Complete 6 Yoga Philosophy Workshops

  • Complete 6 Teaching Methodology Workshops (At least 1 must be in Anatomy)

Keri Mandell, ERYT and Angelique Flynn, ERYT

Right after graduating Penn State in 2001 with a degree in English, Angelique Flynn took her first yoga class with her mom, as a way to spend more time together.  She fell in love with the practice, but did not make it a regular part of her fitness routine until she found Hot Vinyasa in 2013.  She was instantly obsessed and submerged herself in everything yoga by joining a work exchange program at her local studio and eventually traveling around the world on yoga retreats.

She committed to a 200-hour certification with Dana Hot Yoga in Bala, PA in 2015 as a way to enrich her own understanding of yoga and dive deeper into her practice.  After teaching her first class, she knew in her heart that anyone - no matter what age, experience, or body type - could enjoy the benefits of a regular yoga practice and made it her mission to reach as many people as possible.  Within just one year, Angelique left her career in business development to teach yoga full time.

Now, in addition to teaching yoga, Angelique teaches holistic entrepreneurs and wellness professionals how to build sustainable businesses both online and off. In the fall she completed her 500 hour Yoga Certification and is enrolled in the Masters of Science for Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine program at Maharishi International University.

In addition to teaching Hot Vinyasa, Angelique has also taught Gentle Yoga, Chair Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Kids Yoga, and Hot Power Fusion. She is always seeking opportunities to learn more so she can help more people find peace and joy. To that end, she is a long time volunteer with the Bordentown Rotary Club and Contact of Burlington County. When not teaching or practicing yoga, you can find her hanging out with her dog, Ivy.

Angelique aims to challenge and empower her students to find courage on and off their mats.  Angelique is thrilled to join the emPower Yoga community as a co-lead in this Yoga Teacher Training program.

Keri is the owner and founder of emPOWER Yoga. Keri started her journey with yoga twelve years ago while searching for a way to become more active and find balance in her life.

Through the years, yoga transformed Keri physically, emotionally and spiritually, allowing her to connect with others, improve her fitness and gain a better understanding of her true inner-self. Being a true teacher at heart and having worked for over a decade as a special education teacher and school administrator, Keri knew that she wanted to share what she had learned with others. Wanting to give back to a community that gave her so much, led Keri to decided to complete her teacher certification and develop emPOWER Yoga.

Keri is certified through Yoga Stream, My Vinyasa Practice, and Yoga Alliance. Keri is a 500 hour RYT. Keri’s high energy and go get ‘em attitude is infectious and challenges her students to want to do & be their best.  Keri’s classes are fun, challenging, and are sure to make you sweat.

Keri is also a proud ambassador for Watti Ink, Headsweats, & Honey Stinger. Off the mat, Keri enjoys participating in all sorts of physical activities. In fact, Keri is also a CrossFit Coach, ultra runner, & triathlete. In July 2017, she completed her first Ironman and in February, 2020 she completed the World Marathon Challenge (7 Marathons, 7 Continents, 7 Days). Keri is currently Training for her first 100 mile race and Ultraman Arizona, March 2023.

Additionally, Keri loves to give back and supports the charities- American Cancer Society, Autism Speaks, Special Olympics, and Girls on the Run.

There is nothing that gets in Keri’s way, because when you believe in yourself you will be unstoppable!

“Empower’s YTT program was nothing short of life changing. I learned so much. I cannot say enough good things about Keri and her yoga studio - it is my home! - Eryca L

“Empower Yoga's Training Program gives their Trainee's proper knowledge, workshops, readings, assignments, and much more in order to make them successful yoga teachers. Both Angelique and Keri were excellent heads of the program. I learned so much about all facets of yoga and I believe this training will allow me to continue growing and be the best teacher I can be.” - Lexi R

“Empower Yoga's YTT program was amazing. From the self exploration to the lectures and the hands on approach, Keri and Angelique led a wonderful experience. I appreciated how they allowed us to practice our teaching yoga from day 1 and were always there if any questions arose outside of meeting. If I had the opportunity to go through YTT again I would not hesitate to do it at Empower.”- Rachel P.
